1. The three prevalent themes throughout the novel are racism, power, lies and deceit. The example of racial is how the narrator was only identified for his identity which is his race and how he was characterized. Power comes in because Nr. Norton has the power threads throughout the novel and how he had the power to let the black people entertain the white people while they are looking like fools because that's what the white people expected and when the vet said white people have the authority is another example. Lies and Deceit is the process of overcoming deception to reach the truth for example people couldn't see the narrator for who he really is they use him for their own purposes.
2. The themes connect to "I, Too" and "Refugee in American" by Langston Hughes because in the poem "Refugees in America" it tells how the struggle of African American to achieve equality, during the 20th century the African American we're not fully liberated from the effects due to Jim Crow. "I, Too" connect to the themes also because before the Civil Rights Movement, racism and prejudice were rampant at the beginning of the 20th century and Hughes envision that black citizens will be equal.
